Diversity - Exhibition at Ludlow Assembly Rooms
03rd February 2014
Marches Independent Photography are holding their seventh and largest exhibition to date. Fifteen members with over 60 pictures are showing in Ludlow from 31 January until 14 March. A private view was held on the Friday 31st with members and guests filling the Gallery and Bar. A copy of the Exhibition Leaflet may be downloaded here.

Marches Independent Photography is a loose-knit group of independently minded photographers, based around Shropshire and the Marches. MIP acts as a support group, offering talks and workshops, the opportunity for exchange of knowledge and ideas, and periodic exhibitions: all within an atmosphere of encouragement and non-competitiveness.
Shropshire Magazine
04th November 2013
Last month, we met up with Shropshire Magazine editor Neil Thomas at Carding Mill Valley, along with photographer Russell Davies. The outcome is an article Paradise Found, published in the November issue, with a picture of Margaret and I amongst the Long Mynd landscape. The article is illustrated with a number of pictures from Nearest Earthly. It is always interesting to see which images are chosen by others from the 60 plus that are in the book.

Much Wenlock & District U3A
16th October 2013
Priory Hall in Much Wenlock was packed for this presentation on Nearest Earthly Place to Paradise. The slide show included many of the images from the book, although I had also included a good number of others; these were all pictures that were captured along the journey, some of them favourites that had to be edited out.

Margaret Wilson, literary editor, was there to lend her support and Wenlock Books had a stall. A good number of signed copies were sold.
Wrexham Camera Club
14th October 2013
Earlier this year I was approached to give a talk to Wrexham Camera Club; they would not have known then about the imminent launch of the new book. The talk started with my ARPS panel from 1996, through to the recent National Trust collabouration on The Living Edge. After a break, there was the opportunity to show some of the work produced for the Literary Landscape project leading to publication of Nearest Earthly Place to Paradise.

Exhibitions in 2012
12th September 2012
2012 was an exceptional year for exhibitions, five in all. Along with starting work on the Literary Landscape book, this kept me fairly busy - my excuse for not updating the website on a regular basis.

Spirit of the Edge solo exhibition
30th April 2011
Solo exhibition at The Edge Arts Centre, Much Wenlock
Friday 29th April until Friday 27th May

For more than two years I have been exploring Wenlock Edge, capturing photographs for a book ‘The Living Edge’, due to be published this summer by The National Trust, with contributions from a number of specialist authors. This has very much become a personal project, aiming to reveal something of the spirit of this special landscape. The exhibition will also feature images from the Rural Landscape and Shropshire flower series. Work will be available for sale. You can download the Artists Information for the exhibition.

The preview party on Thursday went really well, as did the opening night of the Poetry Festival: the Ian Macmillan Orchestra were Amazing. There were a lot of favourable and interesting comments about the exhibition that has prompted an update to the Technical page of the website.
Landscape workshop at Qatar Photographic Society
28th March 2011
During a family visit to Qatar in the Arabian Gulf, I was privileged to meet members of the Qatar Photographic Society and agreed to run a workshop for them on Wednesday 23rd March at the Katara cultural village. After my presentation "Approaches to Landscape", along with some of the Wenlock Edge pictures, we were able to critique member's work which included some excellent landscape images.
Exhibition at Theatre Severn
15th February 2011
An exhibition by Marches Independent Photography opened at Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury on 3rd February, running until 3rd April. Around 47 pictures are hung in the Gallery and Chapel Bar. The private view was held on Wednesday 15th, drawing a good number of members and guests. In parallel with the exhibition, a projected display of members work is being shown at The Old Market Hall cinema and cafe bar, with an abridged version being shown at the Theatre.

This is the fourth exhibition by MIP. All of the images on show have been selected by the person who produced them and not by a panel of judges. Each image is thus truly personal and not necessarily produced to conform to any established criteria. Experimentation and innovation are encouraged within the group, alongside the development of classic photographic skills. You can download a copy of the Exhibition Poster.
